Twenty-Five Years of One Trade

John started laying pavers in Arizona in the late 1990s, back when interlocking concrete pavers were still a specialty product here and most Valley backyards were poured concrete or nothing. Stone Creations grew out of that work, and the business has stayed pointed at the same trade ever since: pavers, travertine, and natural stone hardscape. Twenty-five years in, the crew has installed well over a thousand driveways, patios, pool decks, and walkways across Scottsdale, Phoenix, Paradise Valley, and the East Valley. That number is not a marketing figure. It is what happens when a small crew averages a few dozen projects a year for two and a half decades and never takes the year off.

The work has been recognized by the Interlocking Concrete Pavement Institute's Arizona chapter across multiple project categories, and you can see the full list of awards and recognition year by year. Awards are nice, but the more useful proof is the number of jobs that come from a neighbor who watched us work next door, and the number of homeowners who call us back a decade later for a second phase of the same yard. The Crew and How We Work

We are family-owned and we run our own crews. We do not sell a job and hand it to a subcontractor you have never met, and we do not run six sites at once with a foreman splitting his attention. The same people who quote your project are the people on the property while it is being built, and John is on site during base prep and layout, which are the two stages where mistakes become permanent.

Because we install only one category of work, the crew has done your project before, in your soil, in this heat. They know what caliche does to a dig, how a Valley yard sheds water in a monsoon, and how much a large-format porcelain unit will move if the bedding sand is not screeded flat. That repetition is the entire advantage of staying narrow.

Licensing and Insurance

Stone Creations holds Arizona ROC license #154361 and carries general liability and workers' compensation coverage. We will send certificates before work begins, and you can verify the license yourself through the Arizona Registrar of Contractors. Ask any hardscape contractor for both. In this trade, an unlicensed crew with a plate compactor and a truck can undercut a legitimate bid by thousands, and the homeowner absorbs the risk when the base fails or someone gets hurt on the property.

What Makes Our Install Different

Almost everything that goes wrong with pavers in Arizona goes wrong below the surface, so that is where we spend the money. We excavate to the depth the application calls for rather than a standard four inches on everything, we compact aggregate base in lifts instead of one deep pass, and we bed on a screeded inch of angular concrete sand rather than the rounded mortar sand that is cheaper and does not lock. Every free edge gets a restraint, because an unrestrained edge is how a field starts to spread.

We also plan drainage before the first paver is cut. Grade goes away from the house, and where a yard cannot shed water on its own, we build in channel drains or a permeable open-graded base. Then we finish the way the work should be finished: joint sand swept in, the field compacted so each unit seats into the bed, and a walkthrough with you before we leave.
