Fountain Hills, Arizona
Paver Contractor in Fountain Hills, AZ
Fountain Hills sits higher than most of the Valley. The Town puts the fountain at about 1,520 feet and Golden Eagle Boulevard at about 3,000. That climb shapes paver work here: hillside lots, driveways that rise or drop to the garage, rocky ground, and backyards that face the McDowell Mountains or Four Peaks. The town is also an International Dark Sky Community, which matters when you light a patio or pool deck.

From the fountain to FireRock: paver work in Fountain Hills
The original town. McCulloch Properties laid out Fountain Hills as a master-planned community in 1970, with the fountain at its center, and it has filled in lot by lot ever since. That means everything from early homes with worn original concrete to brand-new custom builds, sometimes on the same street.
Golf and gated communities. FireRock Country Club and Eagle Mountain are gated golf communities, and SunRidge Canyon and Desert Canyon are built around their own courses. Plan on HOA design review in neighborhoods like these, and we'll supply the samples and product names your committee needs.
Hillside lots. Much of town is built into the slopes below the McDowell Mountains. Driveways climb or drop to the garage, backyards step down toward a view, and parts of some lots are set aside as natural hillside that can't be touched.
Low-upkeep yards. Fountain Hills skews older. The median age was 60.8 in the 2020 census. That makes low-maintenance hardscape and even, trip-free walks and steps worth planning for from the start.
Hillside easements, granite and the dark sky
Hillside protection easements. The Town's hillside rules apply to slopes of 20 percent or more. In hillside subdivisions, part of a lot may sit under a recorded hillside protection easement, and nobody cuts, fills, grades or builds inside it without Town Council approval. Before we lay out a patio, pool deck or wider driveway, we look for that easement line on the plat.
Rock and DG. The hills around town are granite and other hard rock, and decomposed granite covers a lot of yards. Rock makes the dig harder. DG is fine as ground cover, but it is not a paver base, and neither is quarter-minus. Caliche shows up here too, and it doesn't drain. So grade and drainage get planned first, and a driveway here goes on 4 inches of ABC that's been wet down, then compacted in lifts.
Dark sky lighting. Fountain Hills was named an International Dark Sky Community in January 2018. The Town's lighting code limits outdoor fixtures to 3000K, says brighter fixtures must be shielded, and says light shouldn't spill onto the neighbors. Step lights or seat-wall lights are fine with compliant fixtures, as long as the wiring is run before any pavers are laid.
Between the easement map, the lighting code and any HOA design review, we confirm what applies to your lot before the job is scheduled.
How much pavers cost in Fountain Hills
The figures below are typical installed totals off John's price sheet, and the real number for your lot comes from measuring it.
- Paver driveway: $5,000 to $10,000 for a typical two-car driveway of 550 to 900 square feet in standard concrete pavers. Removing old concrete adds about $1,400 to $2,700.
- Paver patio: $2,500 to $6,600 for 300 to 600 square feet in concrete pavers, or $4,500 to $10,800 in natural stone or travertine. A hard-to-reach backyard adds about $150 to $300.
- Pool deck: $7,000 to $13,400 in concrete pavers for a typical deck with coping, or $11,000 to $21,000 in natural stone or travertine.
- Walkway: $850 to $2,750 in concrete pavers. The minimum job is $800.
